  • The Basic Rider Course is the best place to start once you’ve made the decision to ride.
  • Covers the basics of operating a motorcycle and safety-oriented mental strategies.
  • Designed for the student with little or no riding experience.  The only prerequisite is that you can ride a pedal bicycle and that you have a driver’s license or permit.
  • Motorcycles (250cc or less) are provided at no additional charge.
  • If you do not own a helmet, you can borrow one from us.
  • Successful completion of this course will waive the need for a RMV Motorcycle Road Test. (If you do not already have a motorcycle permit, you will need to one from the RMV within 90 days of completing the course. For more information, click on the “License Steps” link or see the FAQ page.)
  • Receive 10% limited discount on motorcycle insurance for life.
  • Get Motorcycle Manufacturers’ Incentives! Many motorcycle manufacturers offer tuition reimbursement or other incentives for students who successfully complete the Basic Rider Course. Check with your local dealer for more information on incentive programs.
  • The Public 2-Day course consists of: a 5-hour eCourse; ten hours of on-motorcycle instruction (including a skill evaluation); and 1 hour of motorcycle safety activities/discussions.  In a private course, it may be possible to complete it in less time if your riding skills are advanced.
  • Total schedule flexibility. If your schedule does not allow you to participate in one of our group Basic Rider Courses and you would like private 1-on-1 instruction, then contact us to set up a schedule that meets your needs. We can teach almost any schedule including weekdays, early mornings, evenings, or weekends. You can choose to complete the course in 1 or 2 days or you can spread the learning out over many days to make it easier to absorb the new learning.

  • Introduction to motorcycles including identification of all the controls
  • Learn proper mounting, starting, and dismounting
  • Discover strategies for reducing risk while riding
  • Learn riding skills including starting, stopping, and maneuvering
  • Practice proper cornering and u-turns
  • Perform simulated lane changes and traffic negotiation
  • Execute hazard avoidance skills like going over obstacles, swerving, and stopping quickly

  • Tuition: $850 for Private BRC – Returning Rider Course (call for small group pricing options)
  • Combines elements of the Basic Rider Course and the BRC2 / Experienced Rider Course.
  • Designed for riders who already possess basic skills but who have not been riding for several years.
  • The pre-requisites for the Returning Rider Course include your ability to: coordinate clutch lever and throttle use to control the motorcycle smoothly; upshift and downshift smoothly; stop the motorcycle properly at a designated point; negotiate typical roadway turns and curves.
  • This course is not intended for a novice rider who is learning to ride for the first time.
  • Motorcycles (250cc or less) are provided at no additional charge.

  • Tuition $750 for Private BRC2/Experienced Rider Course (call for small group pricing options)
  • Renamed from the Experienced Rider Course (ERC) to Basic Rider Course 2 (BRC2) by the Motorcycle Safety Foundation.
  • For riders who are currently riding and already have basic skills.
  • Similar to the BRC except speeds are higher and you will be on your own motorcycle.
  • An excellent refresher course to practice and renew riding skills.
  • Successful completion of this course will waive the need for a RMV Motorcycle Road Test.
  • The public 1-Day course consists of: a 4-hour eCourse; 5 hours of on-motorcycle instruction (including a skill evaluation); and an hour of motorcycle safety activities/discussions.  In a private course, it may be possible to complete it in less time if your riding skills are advanced.
  • A course completion card will provide a limited 10% discount on your Massachusetts motorcycle insurance.
  • You must bring a valid motorcycle permit/license endorsement, and an insured/registered/inspected street-legal motorcycle.
  • Your motorcycle must also pass a safety inspection before being allowed to ride on the range.  Please respect our neighbors’ right to peace and quiet.  Only motorcycles equipped with legal mufflers can be used for the ERC.  (No straight pipes, please.  Street legal aftermarket exhausts are OK).

  • Tuition: $400 ($200 per hour with a 2 hour minimum.  Sold in 2 hour increments)
  • For novices who require additional instruction outside regular, in-course Basic Rider Course remedial opportunities.
  • Consists of range exercises from among Level I and II range exercises.
  • No formal classroom is required unless segments of the BRC classroom need remedial training.
  • Motorcycles and helmets are provided for your use.
  • Completion does not earn you a license test waiver nor qualify for an insurance discount.
